Fear of the Pink Slip and Other Games We Play

One of the truths that could be contemplated if you are afraid of receiving a pink slip (or may have actually received one already!) is that this could be an opportunity for growth. This could be an opportunity to change something in your life that may have needed changing for awhile, this could be an opportunity for you to return to school, have a conversation with someone that you've been meaning to have but couldn't find the time, or exploring ideas that you've been wanting to explore.

This is also a time to surrender to the reality of what is---either you have a job right now at this moment or you don't and to take one small step towards the next right thing for you to do. For some that may be to stop worrying about the future and make the best of your day, today. For some it may mean that you need to get your resume in order, find someone who can help you.

It's been said by a great and humble person, "acceptance was the answer to all my problems". For me, acceptance means looking at what is the reality of my day and acting on that reality. Not on what my mind colors in as reality. My job may be slated to be on the chopping block tomorrow, but today it is not so today you can do the best job you can. You can also get your resume in order and begin looking around to see what other jobs are available but not at the cost of doing your current job, well. If you've received the pink slip, you can accept the reality of what is going on today. You can get your resume in order and send it out to family and friends. You can apply for all kinds of jobs on-line. You can assess what your skills and experience are (sometimes with the help of a friend, counselor, or coach) to gain some perspective on where best to put your energy and time.

The important thing to remember is that you will be okay if you take each day as it comes, accept what is the reality of that day and take action steps towards where you want to be.

Anyone can be a lemming. Who are you?
